Baratang Island is around 100 kilometers from Port Blair via boat, and we need to take proper permission from the Andaman Forest Department to visit the limestone caves.  it is an exotic famous island for its exquisite beaches, mangrove creeks, mud volcanoes, and limestone caves – each unique and worth visiting. The experience of mud volcanoes and limestone caves is very intriguing.

We are coming to Baratang Island for visiting Lime Stone and Mud Volcano. The Limestone cave can be reached by boat which is available at Baratang jetty and from there it takes about 30-40 minutes through the mangrove forest, after which the caves can be reached by walking through the tropical forest.

While traveling through to Baratang island via road, we can see the hidden natural beauty of Barathang Island, one has to pass through the tribal settlements of Andaman. And the incidence of tribals attacking civilized intruders or guests and all the bad stories make it even more adventurous and thrilling. Limestone Caves at Baratang Island

Baratang Island is home to another extreme wonder of the world. The ancient limestone cave here offers a most amazing experience to naturalists and geologists. To reach the limestone caves one has to cross dense forests, cross lush green mangroves, and narrow quaint creeks to reach the ancient limestone caves.

This tour clears a day full of adventure. Limestone caves are ancient and dark. They have rims of stalactites and stalagmites hanging from the ceiling and piling up from below. A veritable sight of this formation is a feast for the eyes of the visitors who reach the limestone caves. Crocodiles can be spotted by boaters.

 

Mud Volcano at Baratang Island

Mud volcanoes form another natural wonder that draws huge crowds to this remote island. These mud volcanoes emit large amounts of de-pressurized pore water and some natural gases such as methane.

The seeping or bubbling of gray mud from the depths of the earth is a real phenomenon to watch in awe. Fresh air all around, the scent of tropical plants, exotic fauna, sea, and dense mangrove, the peaceful life of the inhabitants, and adventure crossing the protected areas of the Jarawa tribe make for an unforgettable experience.
