Rangat is a town in Middle Andaman and is locally viewed as the second most resourceful place in Andaman Nicobar (the first being Port Blair). Rangat is 210 km from Port Blair and 70 km south of Mayabunder. Rangat is well connected by road and sea routes.

 

HOW TO REACH RANGAT

Sea: Daily boat ferries are available to and from Port Blair at Rangat Bay (Nimbutala Village), 8 km east of his town. While on the way, the boat ferries usually stop at Havelock and Neil Island en route. The road journey between Port Blair and Rangat is via Kadamtala and Baratang Bay (210 kilometres). The population comprises people from Tamil Nadu, Erstwhile East Pakistan (Bengali Settlers) and Kerala. Fisheries and cultivation are the two primary occupations of people on this island.

Panchavati waterfall/beach, Amkunj beach (8 km from Rangat) and Betapur beach are nearby places to visit. Cutbert Bay Beach is 20 km from Rangat Bazaar/jetty, a turtle nesting ground (December to February). Govemment-owned Guest House Hawksbill Nest is near the Cutbert bay beach and Turtle Sanctuary. Most tourists visiting Rangat are foreign nationals, and in comparison, Indian Tourists are lesser. The estimated tourist inflow is just about 4500 for the year (as per current estimates).

Cutbert Bay Beach is located at a distance of 12 km. from Rangat. This is a long beach with a tropical forest bordering the beach. Apart from the beach, famous for turtle nesting in season, the tropical forest offers elephant safaris. Tourists can also visit the elephant training camps.

Amkunj Bay Beach is another sandy beach on the way to Cutbert Bay. This beach is ideal for swimming, sunbathing and relaxation. Moorys Dare is a rocky mountainous terrain opposite Arnkunj Bay, which will perfectly suit the requirements of adventure tourists interested in trekking. Panchavati Hills have a beautiful, gentle waterfall. The agricultural farm en route, housing a rich bank of vegetation, is interesting to botany enthusiasts.

Long Island, off the southeast coast of Middle Andaman, is home to the famous’ Lalaji Bay beach, rated as truly world-class. North Passage Island, about 30 minutes boat ride from Long Island. is another interesting small island housing the other famous beach in this locality, Merck Bay. This island also has dense coconut groves, which add to the beauty.

Yeretta Creek is a lush green mangrove creek that is on the way from Yeretta Jetty to Long Island. Uttara Creek is another lush green mangrove creek that travelled through Kadamtala.

This place is in the middle part of the Andaman Islands. Travellers visiting Baratang can make Rangat their destination to stay and continue to Havelock. It is a nearly 3-hour journey from Baratang to Rangat. The journey is through Jarawa Reserve. Tourists can avail of the boat service to reach the island of Rangat. The unpolluted atmosphere, blissful ambience and quiet village life of Rangat attract thousands of tourists to come to Andaman and enjoy the vitality of nature. The APWD Rest House is pleasantly situated up a winding hill from the bazaar with views across the valley. It is the best place to stay and eat, providing good, filling food. There are also a couple of very grim lodges in the bazaar.
Villages: Sabari, Parnasala, Rampur (Civil Hospital – Rangat), Hawamahal, Janakpur Dasharatpur, Mithila etc., are nearby Villages.
